Christmas

Well Ry's first Christmas was amazing. Unfortunatly she had been a little under the weather after a reaction from her 4 month vaccines, but she is starting to feel better each day.  We are just hoping that this was a fluke and she doesn't have the same reaction for her 6 month shots.  This was Ryann's first time getting sick, and it broke this Momma's heart.  Even though she couldn't keep food down, she managed to always have a smile on her face.

Christmas Eve  morning Kacey, Nate and Dottie came over to bake Grampy's gingersnap cookies.  It took a little longer than expected, and two trips to the convenience store (even though AK insisted she was bringing all the ingredients).   After we were done baking we jumped in the car and headed over to Grammy & PapaRonski's for Polish Christmas dinner of Pierogi's and Fish.

Since Ry had been sick I opted to wait to put her in her Christmas outfit when we arrived.  Unfortunately when I went to get Ry dressed I realized her black tights were missing.  This called for a trip to BRU (sorry Kimmy... hangs head in shame) from Ry's crazy Momma.  There was no way my little girl wasn't going to put on her Christmas dress!
After dinner we headed out to Grammy & Grampy's for Christmas with my Mom's family.  We pick names, and swap gifts with our family.  Ryann didn't enter the swap this year, and got spoiled with gifts from everyone!  I also ended up with a really nice Camera bag with lots of slots for lenses/flashes etc... Now I just need to start filling it!

We slept of Grammy and Grampy's on Christmas eve, exchanged gifts, and headed home to see what Santa brought Ryann.

Christmas Day included dinner with Ry's cousins, Grammy & PapaRonski, and then on the 26th we exchanged with the entire Kob's family.

Ry Saw Santa - Take 2

Ry came to my work the other day for the Children's holiday party.  While I realize people probably looked at my a little funny knowing that Ry couldn't exactly enjoy any of the happenings any excuse to have a few extra hours during the day with my bug I'm going to take!

Once again - Ry enjoyed her time with the Jolly old man.  Now I realize that Santa looks a little different this time around, but one day Ry will understand that Santa is a busy busy man and his Elf's take turns dressing like him to help Santa out during this busy time of year!  This Elf looks like he has been stealing too many of Santa's cookies!

4 Months

I can't believe 4 months has passed!   My little bug is getting so big!  A few highlights from her days:

  • Ry sleeps from 9pm to anywhere between 5-7am, with her longest stretch going until 7:30.
  • She loves bath time and enjoys a good 20-30 minute bath every night.
  • She hasn't been weighted since she went to the doctors at 3 months, but a few extra rolls in her legs are proof that she has been gaining weight.
  • Momma still lets her snuggle in the big bed after her morning feeding.  This is more for Momma's sake than Ry's.  She would go back to bed in her crib if I put her there.
  • She is starting to has outgrow(n) her 0-3s, and her size 1 pampers are starting to get snug.  She wore her first pair of 6 month jammies last night.
  • Favorite toys include Snoop (her Angel dear lovey) and Princess.  She also loves her rattles (specifically the ones from her Great Grandma from Halloween. (since she can't have M&Ms until next year)
  • Kipu has eaten 10 Pacis to date.
  • Ry is doing great at school and always gets good report cards.

Ry's new voice

Ry has a "new" voice that she has been using since last Wednesday.  Dan and I have a love/hate relationship with it.  It's super cute at times but also a bit ear piercing.

She has also become a bit "obessesed" with her princess toy:

Ry saw Santa!

While Ry wasn't scared of Santa (as evidenced below) Dan was! He thought Santa looked WAY to old, and was afraid he wouldn't make it until Christmas to bring him presents!  Dan and I took today off and spent the day Christmas Shopping and bringing Ry to see Santa!

It was an awesome day until we went to PetSmart to pick up Kipu from the groomers and when we asked for her no one knew who she was!  Poor Kipu had been sitting out back waiting for us and no one called us.  She is out for a walk with Dan right now for some fun time, we felt so bad for her!  Last time we will use PetSmart to have her groomed!

Boot Camp X 2

Another busy weekend passed in the Kobs house.  Saturday was spent shopping, visiting Great Grandma, and Dan spent the night at the Bruin's game.  Sunday was spent attending multiple "boot camps".  The first boot camp we participated in was Pierogi Boot Camp.  This is when Dan's family (the Kobs side) gets together and makes pierogis which get frozen until Christmas Eve when they are then devoured.  This was the first year Dan and I participated.  The workout mainly focused on your fingers... turns out filling/pinching pierogis is an art.  On Christmas Eve we will find out how many break, and being the new gal I'm sure I will get blamed for all of them.

Second Boot Camp was Christmas Tree shopping for my parents tree - which is cut down fresh.  The Tree farm we have gone to for the last 5-6 years was closed when we showed up so we had to quickly come up with a new game plan.  Now this boot camp is vigorus and most years lasts for HOURS as Grandma likes the fattest nicest tree to be found. Trekking through the woods up and down giant mountains is often common.  This year however Grammy had to go to work afterwards so our search was only 45 minutes long.  Unfortunately, the perfect fattest tree was not found yet.

As a pearl harbor day gift, Dan gave me an ottoman of my choice to be picked out on our shopping trip on Friday.  I told Dan - great news - we don't need to pick out one Friday - I've got the PERFECT one!  So I pull it up on O.co and was told I couldn't get that one because Dan didn't like the shape!  In fairness, I won't tell you what that shape is, but instead will throw a poll on here...

Christmas Traditions - A Stolen Survey

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? I’m not a huge fan of either.  But I will drink some of each.  Ever try Starbucks Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate?  A coworker and I drank them for a week straight in Pittsburgh one year, then realized they had bazillion calories in them.  Whoops.  Give me a Quad Espresso (now with 3 shots decaf) over ice in a venti cup with extra caramel drizzle and a splash of skim and I’m a happy girl.  Any time of the year!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Of course Santa doesn’t wrap presents.  He is a busy man up there in the North Poll.  His elves on the other hand – they wrap them.   Growing up Santa & my parents had different wrapping papers because when I was two I pointed out that Santa and my parents had the same.  Mom made sure NEVER to use the same paper as Santa again.  She must have made special calls to the North Pole to check in with the elves.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Oh most definitely colored on the tree.  We haven’t put any on the house, but I think we will do white if we do.  Although - As a kid I always hated that we only had white lights on the outside when everyone else seemed to have colored.  Now I feel like everyone has white lights outside, so maybe we need to do colored?

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No.  Kissing boys is yucky.

5. When do you put your decorations up? Usually the first/second week of December.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Growing up I would say it was a toss up between the Cheese on the deli platter and the French onion dip.  During my late teens it was probably Gram’s homemade baked mac and cheese.  Now it’s probably the homemade pierogi’s at my In-Laws which are made in early December at a “pierogi boot camp” held by Dan’s Dad’s siblings.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Christmas Eve.  I loved going to Church and singing Silent Night by candle light, then spending the night opening presents with my Grandparents/Aunts/Uncles/Cousins.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? What truth?

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? When I was growing up we got to open a pair of Christmas Pajama’s on Christmas Eve.  Except my freshman year of college when I accidentally opened two new bathing suits (think swim team not beach).  My Dad got in trouble for this, obviously it was his fault for marking the boxes incorrectly, and I had to sleep in old pajamas and didn’t open my new ones until the next morning.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? With colored lights (see number 3 above), a ridiculous number of ornaments, all which have special meaning behind them, a white star on top, and a tree skirt made by my mom with materials from my childhood and wedding.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Love it in small doses.  I don’t care for it when it leaves me powerless in October for 3 days.  There is something so romantic about being outside at night after snow has just fallen.

12. Can you ice skate? Yes, but not too well.  Dan can skate circles around me.  No “toe-pick” for him though… hockey skates.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? I don't think I have just one...

14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Spending time with our families - While we are suckers for the commercialized version of Christmas, I also hope to bring Ryann up understanding the true meaning behind Christmas as well.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? We really don’t do much as far as desserts go.  We are too full from all the eating.  I guess I will go with a Chocolate Chip/Brownie-ish/Cheesecake-ish dish that my Aunt makes for Christmas Day.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Oh we have soooo many.  I love everything we do.   Spending time with family, running between houses, going to Church, watching those I love open presents, reading the labels on the gifts tagged by my Dad (he gets pretty creative), and the list goes on and on.  One specific tradition that I’m sure is very unique to our family – Every year on Christmas Eve my Grandfather would have a glass of Ol Grandad Whiskey.  After he died we would stop at the Cemetary every year on our way to church.  Unbeknown to my sister and I, my parents would bring a nip, take a small sip, and dump the rest on his grave.  Now we all participate in this.  On top of this after all the presents are opened on Christmas Eve we all take a shot of Ol Grandad in his honor.

17. What tops your tree? A star (see above)

18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? I love giving.  I would be so much happier to give presents, and not get any.  I hate being forced to “cut” the number of people we buy for.  I love to give to everyone I care about.

19. Candy Canes: Yuck or Yum? Ehhh...

20. Favorite Christmas show? Movie? As a Kid I couldn’t wait to see Rudolph even though I would get scared.  I was also a Fan of Babes in Toyland.

21. Saddest Christmas Song? Christmas Shoes

22. What is your favorite Christmas song? Silent Night / Away in a Manger for religion based songs.  Baby It’s Cold Outside/All I want for Christmas is you (think Mariah Carey version) for commercialized songs.

And again, I'm that crazy lady that posts millions of pictures of her kid... Here are some of the "Failed attempts" for Ry's Christmas Photo, and a few pictures from our first married Christmas.  Dan and I didn't live together for long before we got married (only the 3 months after we bought our house before our wedding).  There was something so magical about that first Christmas together.  I opted out of including the picture of me carrying two large glasses of wine over to the tree while we opened presents.  Starting traditions together was something that will always hold a special place in my heart.  And, in Dan's case, probably gave him a glimpse into just how crazy my mom I am.  Yes, I am my Mother's daughter - even if I'm not as good at cleaning as she is.
